Deep Light

Davide Battistin
Apr 17, 2025 – Jul 28, 2025

Davide Battistin returns to explore his Venice, choosing to reinterpret it through a new perspective. He uses the monotype technique, creating a series of black and white works that are true one-of-a-kind impressions, realised with ink on paper.

Deep Light is Davide Battistin’s new exhibition, organised by lineadacqua: his latest works are on display at the lineadacqua gallery in Venice until 28 July 2025.

The exhibition features nine monotypes and one large-format painting, through which the artist dive into an intimate and introspective journey, conveying, through his gaze, the impressions that the lagoon city has left in his memory.

Battistin interprets Venice in an original and profound way, observing it closely and offering a vision that feels both intimate and suspended in time. Far from being neutral, his black and white is infused with emotion, memory, and contemplation.

Monotypes, often comparable in appearance to engravings, are unique works born from an intense and meditative creative process. Ink is applied to a plate and worked with various tools until the artist transfers the first trace onto paper. He then intervenes to emphasise details and nuances, enriching the piece with additional layers of emotion.

What emerges is a collection of images that evoke impressions, memories, and sensations, recollections that resurface like visions, at times clear, at times veiled, but always present.

For Battistin, these works represent a deeply personal dimension. To observe them is to observe one's own memories from the outside and come into contact with them, sweeping them, sometimes with a confident stride, sometimes gently, as if moving through inner landscapes.

Light is the central and constant element in all his works. As the artist himself states, it is light that generates the magic of the image, transforming a fragment of reality into a suspended vision. Battistin studies it with great care, seeking to visually capture the atmosphere of a specific moment in the day, with that unrepeatable and mysterious light that makes each work unique.
